Since APEX Running launched in late 2017 with the inaugural UTS, all of our events have been made possible by an outstanding team of volunteers and freelance professionals alike. Upon finishing, it's not uncommon to hear participants rave about how the support from our Event Team was a highlight of their race experience!
Details of the current Senior Event Team, who will be present at each event, can be found below. If you wish to join us as a volunteer at one of our events, please see HERE.
Michael Jones - Race Director
A ‘runner’s Race Director’, Mike’s meticulous attention to detail and wealth of experience as an elite athlete in countless international races is evident at every APEX Running event. From initial route design, to overseeing the creative direction of all event digital and physical assets, he ensures all experiential elements of each event are well considered and cohesive, delivering impactful and memorable participant experiences of the absolute highest quality.
Based in Chester, he still loves to run in Snowdonia whenever he can and plans to return to racing ultras again soon. Find out more HERE.
Kev Keenan - Mountain Safety Team Leader
From overseeing marked-course logistics and managing on-mountain safety personnel, to establishing robust communication and medical provisions, Kev ensures the highest standard of participant safety is delivered at each event. Thanks to his work, runners can rest assured they are in safe hands once their race is underway!
Boasting 13 years experience in the British Army as a Communications Systems Engineer, in his spare time he loves to get out into the mountains alone, or with his two cocker spaniels, and would one day love to take on UTS 165 himself…
Rich Stevens - Assistant Race Director
Rich and Mike met in 2012 through a mutual appreciation of industrial design and a love of fellrunning. As Assistant Race Director, he supports with event operations and logistics, as well as being responsible for the design and creation of our wonderfully unique 3D-printed trophies via his company Design Real!
He now lives in Windermere with his family, working primarity as a freelance designer and enjoys running on the Lakeland fells whenever he can, racing for Ambleside AC. He has finished the Jungfrau marathon 13 times, as well as the Eiger Ultra E101, and would love to complete the Bob Graham Round one day…
