5 years ago I couldn’t run down the beach near where I lived at the time for more than 10 minutes without having to stop and walk off a stitch. Now I’m one of the UK’s most prolific ultrarunners, with several top-10 performances at big international events to my name.
Although I was already well versed in the training principles behind endurance performance thanks to a decade of competitive XC mountain bike racing during my youth, my rapid progress through the ultrarunning ranks is mainly thanks to my commitment to learning, having the right attitude and being open minded enough to try new training processes and techniques. I maintain consistent while filtering what does and doesn’t work for me in order to improve: an ongoing process of exploration, which I hope will continue for another 5 years…
An athlete’s endeavour is a constant work in progress. Ultrarunning rewards experience and determination over natural gift and with the right attitude and willingness to learn, anyone can run 100 miles. A curious nature drew me into the sport and now I’ve learnt enough to give back and help others enjoy a similar steep rise in performance throughout their ultra-journeys. Don’t waste your time doing the same thing over and over, hoping for better results: learn from my mistakes, step above and achieve your running APEX. You are capable of far more than you think.
How does it work?
After contacting me via the email address below, I’ll be in touch to chat for an hour or so to get to know you. Even better, if you can get to North West UK for a day’s running, we can chat in a less formal atmosphere and discuss your background, what motivates you and future aspirations. This all helps me to build a picture of who you are, where you may be heading and how I can help you get there. Following this initial meeting I’ll ask you to fill out a comprehensive athlete-onboarding questionnaire while I block out the first 3 months of training, bearing in mind your commitments elsewhere in life.
You’ll need a GPS watch with heart rate monitor and a smartphone. Training is delivered via TrainingPeaks software, for which there is a great mobile app that links to your Garmin Connect and/or Movescount account, allowing you to seamlessly track your training, add notes and provide feedback. You have unlimited support via email or WhatsApp messaging/voice/videocall to discuss any queries you may have regarding training, equipment, diet etc. which is especially helpful in the lead up to an event!
Coached athletes also benefit from event and online shop (coming soon) discounts, as well as occasional offers from my sponsors.
I don’t prescribe to a one-size-fits-all approach to training and coaching and my pricing reflects this. Some need more guidance than others. My current rates are £80-£120 PCM, with an initial 3-month commitment and subsequent monthly or quarterly (preferred, so I can plan training further ahead) payment via direct debit.
Whether your goal is to complete your first ultra or maximise your athletic potential, I can help. Take that first step above and get in touch today! firstname.lastname@example.org
